We are in this together, and I am more than proud to be affiliated with Paul and "The Australian Pink Floyd Show." This is truly a unique combination of History, Talent, design, and dedication. UK Summer Shows!!!
A huge thankyou to everybody who made it to our 4 UK summer shows. Each one had a really special vibe all of it's own.
The two Liverpool Summer Pops shows yet again proved loud and clear that UK Floyd fans know every note and every word of every song!!! We experienced probably the loudest singers that we've ever had at our shows - and as Steve Mac said "it would be great to take that audience around with us to every gig"!
Beaulieu had that great outdoor feel that we fealt last year. It's pretty special playing as the sun goes down, and for a band that plays most of it's shows indoors, it leaves a lasting impression for sure.
Last saturdays London ExCel show gave us the chance to combine a look around the Motor Show with a 2 hour gig. Rarely for us we were restricted to a 1 set show and were given strict instructions to finish at 11pm sharp. It was a bit of a lottery whether that would be the case by the end, but with a bit of setlist tweaking, we walked off at EXACTLY 23:00 hours!!! (and to a beaming Harvey Goldsmith!)
Thanks again from all at TAPFS.

Australian 'On An Island' press release
Here is the Sony/BMG press release for Australia
ON AN ISLAND -The new album from David Gilmour
Release date: 11 March 2006
SONY BMG Australia
On An Island is the third David Gilmour album and his first studio recording since Pink Floyd’s 1994 multi-platinum ‘The Division Bell’. From the first moments of the sound collage that begins ‘On An Island’, you know it’s a special experience that not only bears comparison with the best of Pink Floyd, but also confirms their lead guitarist and singer as an outstanding solo artist. Here he reveals a personal vision and a breadth of styles – folk, jazz, orchestral and rock – brought together as a unified piece by his lyrical guitar playing and instantly recognisable voice.
With orchestrations by the renowned Polish composer Zbigniew Preisner and a luminous production (assisted by Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera), there is virtuosity a plenty. Crosby and Nash sing harmonies, Robert Wyatt plays the cornet, Caroline Dale the cello and Alasdair Molloy the glass harmonica. Pink Floyd’s Richard Wright guests on Hammond organ, while Gilmour sweeps and soars with his often soul-piercing guitar and vocals. Yet the album never becomes grandiose. At its heart, it remains a reflective piece, not least because of the lyrics.
Although Gilmour takes some writing credits, most go to writer Polly Samson, continuing a collaborative partnership that began with The Division Bell. The songs tell of shared experiences that evoke a breadth of moods, from the hauntingly beautiful title track ‘On An Island’ (with a guitar performance set to enter the Gilmour canon of classics) to the meditative ‘The Blue’ and ‘A Pocketful of Stones’, as well as the heavier rock and blues numbers ‘Take A Breath’ and ‘This Heaven’. In the spirit of intimacy, this album sees Gilmour’s debut on the saxophone, as well as contributions by contemporaries from his pre-Floyd days.
On An Island is a collection of songs and instrumentals that had its genus in the critically acclaimed 2002 London Festival Hall concerts. Gilmour has stepped out of his super-group to discover he’s still at his peak - and he’s rightly pleased. ‘It’s my best and most personal work,’ he says. ‘Making it with my musician friends has been a positive experience on so many levels.’ And touring it this spring can only take him to a new high.

David Gilmour comes out as number 1 Fender guitar player, as voted by the (obviously very discerning) readers, and our very own Steve Mac has some interesting things to say about his love of DG's playing and some insights into David's playing technique.

David Gilmour in 'Guitar' magazine
David Gilmour features on the cover of the December issue of 'Guitar' Magazine.
The article, 'Sixty reasons why you should love Pink Floyd's legendary guitarmeister' includes reason 24:

Derbyshire Rock & Blues Festival
The rain couldn't dampen the spirits of the audience at The Rock & Blues Festival on Saturday. Warmed up by Thunder (the band, not the weather!), the crowd stayed riveted to the spot for The Aussie Floyds 2 Hour set. A big thanks from the band to everybody there for the fantastic reception.

Beaulieu stays dry....!
The capacity audience at Beauliea were treated to a performance of The Darkside Of The Moon in it's entirety on Sunday night. Starting the show in full daylight the Aussies played a faultless rendition of this classic album as the sun went down over the New Forest.
Earlier bad weather had threatened to spoil the show, and even as showtime approached the lighting and sound crew were fixing waterproof covers to the stage equipment. The rain held off throughout the full show until the last few chords of 'Run Like Hell' before the skies opened up! Torrential rain followed!!!

Two Sellout Nights at Liverpool Summer Pops!!!
A huge thankyou to everybody who came along to the two concerts in Liverpool.
Once again the amazing spirit of the audience helped to lift these two shows to become memorable experiences for everybody there - band included.
Friday nights performance of 'Wish You Were Here' was met with an enthusiastic response from the capacity audience, joining in the vocal of most of the tracks reaching their peak during the title track of this popular Floyd classic.
Saturday night witnessed the first time the band had ever played 'Animals' in it's entirety. The atmosphere was simply electric as the band played through the tracks that make up this incredible album. Again the capacity audience sang their hearts out as only a Liverpool Summer Pops crowd can!

Malta Gig
G'day,
We'd like to thank all those that attended our gig at the Luxol ground in Malta on Saturday night.
Also I thought we'd link to a review of the show from The Times, Maltese edition. Here's a quote...
It was a peculiar crowd for a rock concert. There were the ubiquitous denim and leather clad rockers, youths in the latest designer wear and hundreds of former hippies, now with greying hair.
Yet the loud applause at the end proved that The Australian Pink Floyd had managed to recapture to perfection the musical skills and stage theatrics of the band that influenced generations.

Arena Tour 05 - Chicago Competition winner
G'day,
Pontypool-based fan Terry Escott has been announced as the lucky winner who will travel to Chicago to watch the show and hang out backstage with the band this Autumn. He saw the show at the Cardiff CIA in April and his e-mail address was plucked at random from the thousands of entries received throughout the Arena 05 Tour. Thank you all for responding so fantastically to the competition!
Terry, who said he will be taking his 12-year old son David with him, said:
"He's more of a fan than me even, and that's saying something. He's been coming to the shows with me since he was nine, and we're both totally excited. The chance to see the real band again in Chicago is fantastic. The bit where they play 'Skippy' is awesome. Forget any tribute group that may have formed to play for Sir Bob!! Skippy is great, the lighting is spot on and the sound is totally fantastic. The fact that the band members actually enjoy playing the music shows through with a show that is much much more than just a gig. Thanks so much."
The winners of the five pairs of backstage passes for each of the two Liverpool shows will be announced next week.

Tickets: £20 £17.50 (A limited number of higher priced Gold Circle seats available)
THE AUSTRALIAN PINK FLOYD SHOW, one of the hottest sell-outs at last year's Pops, have announced they are to make a return for this year's event to perform TWO brand new shows on consecutive nights - and The Liverpool Echo is giving away a free Live CD of both these actual shows to every ticket holder!
Fresh from performing in Arenas in the USA, mainland Europe and in the UK, The Australian Pink Floyd Show will play in the Big Top Arena alongside the ever-growing parade of star names lined up for the Pops: Diana Ross, Will Young, Meat Loaf, Brian Wilson, Ronan Keating, Andy Williams, Status Quo and Jools Holland. After the success of last year's Pops, the band will perform two new shows.
On Friday 15th July, for the first time and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release, they will perform landmark 1975 album 'Wish You Were Here' in full. On Saturday 16th July, in another first, they perform Floyd's seminal 1977 album 'Animals' in its entirety. On both nights, they will also be playing a greatest hits package.
Speaking from the band's office in Adelaide, singer Steve Mac said:
'Liverpool has always been a very special place for us. You couldn't get a ticket for love nor money last year and the atmosphere at the Big Top was unbelievable. You guys were singing louder than we were! When it comes to appreciating Floyd, there's nowhere in the world like Liverpool and there could be no better place to try out both of these new shows. We can't wait to get back.'
The Pops are organised by Chas Cole for CMP Entertainment in association with Liverpool City Council.
Mike Storey, Leader of Liverpool City Council, said: "The Liverpool Pops continue to get bigger and better, attracting fantastic bands from across the globe. And the acts who play here get such a fantastic response from Liverpool audiences, they can't wait to come back again. I'm delighted the Australian Pink Floyd are returning to the city - they were a huge hit at last year's Pops, and are yet another great addition to this year's exciting line-up."
Chas Cole said: "I am delighted that the band has agreed to play two nights because the support they've received from the Pops public in the past has been absolutely fantastic. These should be another two very special nights!"

European Dates Announced for 2004
The Aussies announce more dates on the ongoing ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ tour for April/May 2004, kicking off with one show in Copenhagen and a comprehensive 22 date tour of Germany.
This comes as a result of months of negotiations between the APF’s agents, CMP, and the cream of Europe’s live music promoters and press – 12 of whom were guests at the recent Royal Albert Hall show.

Gig cancellations 5,6,7 November
Unfortunately, due to continuing health problems within the band, we have had to postpone gigs at Northampton, Bournemouth and Guildford this week. A decision was taken, largely on the advice of Steve's throat specialist, but also so as not to do any 'sub standard' performances to rechedule these shows. Northampton will now be held on Jan 20th, Bournemouth on Jan 17th and Guildford on Dec 4th.The rest of the tour should remain unaffected and resumes at Bristol Colston Hall this saturday Nov 8th.Our sincere apologies to all affected by these changes.

Salisbury & Northampton shows rescheduled
THE AUSTRALIAN PINK FLOYD SHOW have unfortunately been forced to postpone two shows on their Dark Side of The Moon 30th Anniversary Tour after lead guitarist and singer Steve Mac contracted a throat infection and is unable to sing.
The concerts booked at Salisbury City Hall on Friday October 10th and Northampton Derngate Theatre on Saturday October 11th, have been rescheduled for November 5th (Northampton) and January 24th (Salisbury). Tickets for the original dates will be valid for the new dates, but customers wishing for a refund should contact their original point of sale.
Steve Mac said today: "This is a massive disappointment to me but I would rather postpone the shows than not have the band perform to their maximum ability."
The Dark Side of The Moon 30th Anniversary Tour, already getting rave reviews, carries on as planned on Thursday October 16th at Dartford Orchard Theatre and at 50 other venues across the UK and Ireland until March 2004.

Backing vocalists
We've been lucky to have the services of Simone and Zoe on a few shows this tour, and response to them and the two new songs in the set have been good. This is however only a semi-permanent arrangement at this time, and they will only be available for some shows! We're sure that the other 2+ hours of Floyd classics that we are performing will more than make up for the shows that they are absent!

Projections!
Anyone who has been along to an APF show recently will have noticed the new projections and circular screen. We've chosen in the past to shy away from using the classic circular screen behind us on stage, until we could do it justice - and now we can!!! Thanks to American CG artist Bryan Kolupski, we now have computer animations for a number of songs in the set, and plans are underway to increase on this. Bryan has been very generous with his work, and I'm sure will be happy to know that the Aussie Floyd fans are thrilled with the results - as are all the band and crew. Bryan can be contacted through his own website at

New Syd Barrett book release?
A new book about Syd Barrett written by Tim Willis, is soon to be released, and we were lucky enough to meet Tim at the Cambridge Corn Exchange on 5/10/02. Tim was on hand for a book signing at the venue and will be doing the same at the Cheltenham Town Hall when we play there on November 15th. We are now reading the book, and Tim has obviously done extensive research, and has spoken first hand to many of Syd?s closest associates, including David Gilmour. He certainly has some very interesting tales to tell, so we recommend you get yourself a copy. If you would like to know how to get an autographed copy of the book, for £12.95, please email us here and we?ll pass it on to Tim.

Royal Albert Hall!
A huge thankyou to everybody who made it to the Royal Albert Hall on monday night. The atmosphere in the hall was electric from start to finish, and the near capacity audience were very appreciative giving a standing ovation at the end of the show! One of the highlights of the night were the kids from the Islington Green School Choir. They sung their hearts out to 'Another Brick In the Wall (pt.2)'; the first time the School has been reconnected with the music of Pink Floyd since they originally sang on the No.1 record in 1979!
Talks are already underway for an Aussie Floyd return to the hall next year! Watch this space...

Another brick in the wall....
It still ranks as one of pop music¹s most historic moments. A bunch of
school kids from London shooting to No. 1 in the charts with Pink Floyd singing the immortal lines: "We don¹t need no education, we don¹t need no thought control!"
Now history is about to repeat itself. Almost 22 years after "Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2) " was the Christmas No.1, and for the first time since, the children of Islington Green School, North London, will again sing with Floyd - only this time it¹s on stage with the Australian Pink Floyd Show, live at The Royal Albert Hall on Monday November 26!
The Head teacher at Islington School is Marion Parsons: "It¹s going to be a lot of fun. The Pink Floyd video put our school on the map and made us famous the world over with their fans, so it¹s a thrill to do it all over again."
The Royal Albert Hall is set to be a memorable occassion for all Pink Floyd & Aussie Pink Floyd fans so get your tickets now if you haven't already!

An opening now exhists ... - July 13, 2001
for a new lighting company, or individual LD to come on-board and help us to take the Australian Pink Floyd Show to the next level. We have already been discussing our ideas and requirements with a few companies, but are looking for interest from anybody who would like to get involved in this exciting opportunity. The Aussie Floyd presents a golden opportunity for anybody involved in the Concert Lighting industry, or indeed anybody with a keen interest who can display the no-how and ideas to develop a light show second only to Pink Floyd themselves. (Unfortunately our budget is slightly smaller than theirs!)
End of an era in the Lighting department! - July 13, 2001
The recently finished Spring 2001Tour saw the final show by our long time lighting designer, Stevie Ellerington. Stevie has been a familiar face behind the lighting desk for the past 5 years or so, and will be missed by us all. He is moving on to lighting work which will see him travel all over the world during the next 2 years, including Australia, New Zealand, America, the Far East and even a stint on the QE2! We all wish him well.
USA TOUR CANCELLED - February 23, 2001
Unfortunately at the eleventh hour the proposed US tour has had to be cancelled.
We have been inundated since the beginning of the year with emails from people in the US & Canada, expressing their enthusiasm in our efforts to tour over there. We’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all our new friends in the USA and promise them that negotiations are still underway to try and get us over there in the not too distant future. An official statement from our management is now on the Tour Dates page.
Anybody from either side of the Atlantic who feels they may be able to help us in any way to get this US tour happening, please email us…!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!!! - February 2, 2001
It’s taken awhile to get organised, but we are all now recharged and ready for what is looking like our busiest year yet.
The year 2000 proved to be another very successful one for the aussie floyd – attendance’s to all of our shows, especially on the winter tour, were up on 1999’s figures, so a big THANK YOU to our ever growing army of faithful fans. Your comments to us along the way, about the shows and choice of songs, are still very welcome and helpful. We listen very closely to what you, the audience, have to say – so keep those suggestions coming in!
2001 TOUR DATES are now coming in, including a tour of the USA in Feb/March! All you UK fans who have supported us over the past 7 years can help us out in America by spreading the word to any friends and family you have there. It’s going to be like starting out again over there, but we can’t wait! We’ll try to keep this news page updated along the way so that you can see how we’re getting on. A full report will be posted in April on our return. Wish us luck!
UK DATES will be through in the next couple of months, but you can rest assured that we will be touring all over the UK in May & June 2001.
Colin, would like to thank everybody who listened to, and purchased, his ‘Strange Weather’ CD on the last tour. Your support is greatly appreciated. The CD will be available at the merchandise stand until sold out, for o10. If you can’t wait until the next tour, or would prefer to order a copy via mail order, just send us an email and we’ll send you the details. (Price is still o10 Inc. p&p – US$17 Inc. p&p)
VIDEO & SOUND RECORDING
Many of you have asked if you can record our shows – and many have done so without asking!
We can not allow any recordings to be made for legal reasons and the venues are within their rights to confiscate any recording equipment at the door. We often record our shows so that we can listen, watch and improve the show. If and when we are legally able to make a recording, video or audio, available for sale, we will do so at a very reasonable price.
Tour News - November 14, 2000
Well the tour is now officially half way through, and attendance's seem to be up yet again! A big thanks to all of you who have braved the weather and come out to give us your support.
It never fails to amaze us at the reception we get everywhere we go! Thankyou all!
Tickets are selling well for all remaining shows, and some of the dates have nearly sold out, so get your tickets ASAP to avoid disappointment.
Tour News - November 12, 2000
A big thankyou to everyone who made it down to the L2 in Liverpool last night. It was a fantastic night in a new venue for us. Colin, bass & vocals, nearly didn't make it when he was held up for 3 hours on the M62 motorway, but luckily arrived just in time to go on!
Tour News - November 1, 2000
The tour is going well and thanks for the great reception we get at every show. Especially those of you who follow us around from time to time. Before we forget, congratulations to the competition winner, John Baxter from Hampshire.
His answers were:
Question 1: The Aussies in the band come from Adelaide.
Question 2: I would like to see Pink Floyd play with Ayers Rock, Australia, as a backdrop. They would have to start with Shine On You Crazy Diamond just as the sun was moving toward sunset and the rock is beginning to change colour. They would follow this with Careful With That Axe Eugene, reaching the climax as the sun disappears altogether before launching into Set The Controls with Echoes closing the first half.
The second half would have Dark Side Of The Moon in its entirety, with the rock being used to project the images onto and a traditional encore sequence of Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here and Run Like Hell.
(His words precisely).
Colin Wilson... Strange Weather - October 29, 2000
Strange Weather, the CD by Colin Wilson (bass and vocals with The Aussie Floyd) is now available via the website. Cost is o10 including Postage and Packaging. The album includes 11 original tracks by Colin, and features Paul Burgess (10cc) on drums.
Except some reviews soon, also Colin is working on his own dedicated website to promote the album.
For more details email, strangeweather@freeuk.com | |
