The Australian Pink Floyd :: Re: The Greatest Gig In The Sky.

Re: The Greatest Gig In The Sky.

Just had delivered ten minutes ago.....The Discovery Box Set.
All 14 original studio recordings digitally remastered.
A fine addition to my collection well worth possessing.
I ordered it months ago the full price of £129-93 is already irrelevant smiling
Looking forward to listening to Piper at the Gates of Dawn and to Saucerful of Secrets.

This boxed set is proving to be strangely addictivesmiling
I sat comfortably intending to just listen to The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, was so impressed by the freshness, clarity and detail of the sound that I thought I play another one.....errrrr and after that yet another.
Saucerful of Secrets sounds really good so does Meddle (Fearless and Echoes particularly)
Thats it for today now. Another 11 to look forward to hearing, maybe tomorrow ?

After a weeks worth of listening I conclude that I'm only really interested in hearing the albums from Piper through to Meddle. All of which I have on vinyl LP records but sound a bit rough due to their age and being well played over the years....its nice to hear Syd sing clearly on the remastered 1967 album.smiling
For somebody who may be considerably younger than me the Discovery set is a good collection to own as it gives an easy to understand lesson in how Pink Floyd progressed and experimented their way through their musical career.
The idea of shelling out quite so much cash on the Immersion collections both DSOTM and The Wall (due in February 2012)doesn't appeal to me at all. £90 + I feel is stretching it and taking advantage just too far.
